So...no red, pink, or white chickies or eggs on this one huh? No little duckies either? HOW ABOUT BUNNIES!!!!!!!!!!! Who wants a bunny?!? Mine are due soon so they'd be old enough by then....oh wait, that's Easter isn't it? Nevermind. (j/k I don't dye chickies) I would like to join if I may. The swap names are going out Feb1st right?

Yep. Names are going out Feb 1. Thanks for signing up. I have this weird fascination with organizing events so I thought I'd give this a try. What kind of bunnies? I have been driving 2 hours to an auction trying to get my daughter a mini rex or mini lopp. She'll be 3 in April and I want to get a baby so we can keep it tame. 2 weeks ago a mini rex baby went for $15 dollars and it had a messed up eye. Unfortunately the buyer didn't know that she bid her money two times. One for the bunny and one for the "cage". Not even 2 sq. ft of rabbit wire. her rabbit cost her $30.00 and she was none too happy.

No little bunnies. I have Californians, American Chinchillas (the medium sized Chins), and Silver Foxes. All are considered commercial breeds (big enough to eat, use for fur, etc). The Chins are the calmest, friendliest breed I have ever known. Mine will almost hop out of their cage and climb up to snuggle under your chin. If we don't say hello and give them a little scratching they will grab the cage door with their teeth & start rattling it.

Best bet for a good bun is to attend your local rabbit shows. Most breeders bring culls to sell as pets. If they've been shown they are "usually" friendly and fairly easy to handle. Many breeders also bring young buns that may not be show quality for minor coat or toenail flaws. Great pets but not worth keeping to a breeder. Check out the ABRA (American Rabbit Breeder Assn for shows and breeders in your area. http://www.arba.net/Shows.htm

What is a good price for chinchillas? I saw some advertised locally for $40.00 and they are one animal I know nothing about.

Mine aren't the "chin" animals, mine are a rabbit breed known as "American Chinchillas" They are called that because their coat is larked just like one with the bullseye, batwing formation on their hips, etc. Regular Chin animals are nigt animals and do not handle stress very well. I don't recommend them as a pet for young kids. My Am Chin rabbits are considered a rare breed so they usually run $30-40 for a healthy, decently bred one.

The $40 for a real chinchilla is a good price. Make sure it's been handled if you decide to get it. If they stress out they will drop their coat and I think they can go off their feed and die. I have heard of some being very hearty, but their are still night animals so they sleep when we are awake and want to be awake making noise when we want to sleep.
