Signs of Spring.

Spring? What's that?

Our ground is still *completely* covered with what was formerly a couple feet of tight-packed snow and has now reduced itself to about 6-8" of compressed styrofoamish stuff that you can walk on without denting. The ditches are completely full of ice from the last half-hearted thaw. When Spring does actually arrive we're going to have *serious* flooding, but since there's nothing above freezing in the next 10 days' forecast I guess we don't have to worry about THAT problem any time soon. Aaaaargh.

And it's not b/c this is Canada -- we *should* be getting our first crocus blooms right about now, and they should've started tapping the maples a week or two ago. As it is, I doubt the maples will run for at least another week or two, and as for the crocus, I am thinking well into April. Bizarre!

We are finally going to have a dry day today. I have grass that is almost a foot long by my fence in the front yard. The chickens keep the grass much shorter in the back area where they free range. They are great little lawn mowers, now if I could just teach them to eat the grass next to the fencing and brick work so I won't have to haul out the weed eater.

Another update from Cent.Mo. (these guys started blooming five days ago). This winter hasn't been as bad as some (`wild' honeybees have shown up during every `warm' spell during every month this year).

Oh, I can't wait to hear them around here!

Shouldn't be too long now! I have crocus blooming now too. I found them under some leaves that blew into the garden a few weeks ago. It's very cold here still though. Only in the 30s today so far. It's supposed to get up into the high 40s tomorrow and that should feel like a heat wave lol!

Springtime is here for sure.
