Weeeeeel, as we said in Texas all those years I was there.............

Even down deep she's shallow!.

We could be talking about my sisters here- and I just try to speak softly and not hold it against them. It doesn't always work though-

I feel sympathy for them, because they're rarely truly happy.

Weird trick I have learned- when someone starts on a rant, like SIL did, keep lowering the volume of your voice. They get so focused on hearing what's being said that they start quieting down. Doesn't cure insensitivity, but helps shorten the ugly episode.

Please tell your Mom that I would be proud to have her as my Mom! And she must have done a fine job raising YOU!

Personally I would show your mother how wonderful you found her gift...give her a hug and tell her she is the best mother in the world..then if she mentions what your SIL said...just tell her that even if it had been a 10c gift from her it would be priceless as it was given with a mothers love.....a mothers love cannot be bought only given......

Your SIL will end up a lonley old woman........and she has no "class" or manners irrespective of how much of your brothers money she spends.........I feel sorry for their children who will no doubt end up not realising what true parental love is......
