Silke Hen-Somethings wrong-NEW PICS!

I opened the coop this morning no Qtip (my broody hen).

Opened the coop and there she was. She had laid an egg and stole the 3 fake ones out of the other nest and looked like a puffed up marshmallow again. Took the eggs put ice under her and she was out 15 minutes later. Guess I have to be persistent!

The first pic is a normal Qtip

That is so cute! My silkie, Peanut, is broody half the time, too. She is will sit and cluck very quietly. I will just pick her up and set her somewhere to sit and cluck softly while I gather eggs or clean the coop or whatever and then put her back on her golf ball.
Just a big clucking powder puff ball.

"...My one buff orp broody attacked my labrador who tried to sneak a peek inside the coop...."

LOL. We had a 1 pound banty go broody outside. Our 110 pound German Shepherd accidentally got too close while looking for a spot to do his thing - she managed to chase him off.

Beautiful silkie, btw. The nest looks so clean too!

Oh yeah, she did it last year too! She just wont give up till she gets a chick. Thing is last year she kicked out her eggs all the time so I just gave her chicks after 4 weeks when they got to the feed store. This year though... she went broody late and there are no chicks to be found. She's better at the sit on eggs part this time but some how she lost her one silkie egg she was sitting on!!! Gone without a trace... So while I was away I told my mom to put a silkie egg under her... well my mom put a pullet egg under her... So it's been 6 weeks now and still no chick. IF the pullet egg makes it she will have one chick in the nest week or so.. if not, she stole two more eggs while I was at school and nobody noticed so they are growing now and she'll have some in 3 more weeks!!! She is one stubborn hen.

My broody silke sounds like an alien when she sees me coming her way. One of the noises I have ever hear come out of one of my chickens.
