I usually leave the small run door open when u leave so they can get in and out but right now I have an injured chicken in part of the run where the door is.

What should I do? Also when I take her away to be with the rest of the flock, she runs back to where the coop is.I usually leave the small run door open when u leave so they can get in and out but right now I have an injured chicken in part of the run where the door is.
They only stay broody for a few weeks at a time, then the hormones take a break for a while. Hopefully by Thanksgiving her broodiness has run its course for now. Most broodies do get off the nest a couple times a day for food, water and pooping. Some really let themselves go and get thin and dehydrated. So for now keep her busy with other things and she should be ok when you are gone during the holiday. What should I do when i leave for the week for thanksgiving? No one will be there to pick her off the nest. Will she get off by herself to poop, drink, and eat?
Ok thank u and the first day u realized she stayed in the nest was when she was super thirsty. They only stay broody for a few weeks at a time, then the hormones take a break for a while. You can lock her out, you can set up a cage outside or inside with food and water, if you have the time to pick her up and carry her around and get her away from the coop, this helps. Broodies are determined to do their jobs, they are tough to deal with sometimes! What should I do? Also when I take her away to be with the rest of the flock, she runs back to where the coop is.

Some broodies glaze over so much they forget to eat and drink. That's why it helps to intervene with them. The normal incubation cycle is around 21 days usually after 25 days broodies give up.Ok thank u and the first day u realized she stayed in the nest was when she was super thirsty.
If this happens while I’m gone... will she eventually get off? Some broodies glaze over so much they forget to eat and drink. That's why it helps to intervene with them. The normal incubation cycle is around 21 days usually after 25 days broodies give up.
Thanksgiving is still 2 1/2 weeks away. She may be done by then. Is someone going to be taking care of your birds while you are gone? If so and they have the time, they could drag her out a couple times a day. Otherwise keep food and water right in her view so that she is reminded to take care of herself. If this happens while I’m gone... will she eventually get off?
There won’t be anyone but I will make sure the food and water is near her. Also it’s weird Bc when I go out and be by her she does ok and ears grass with the flock, but when I leave she goes back to the coop.Thanksgiving is still 2 1/2 weeks away. She may be done by then.
