Silkie Baby Dead Need an answer fast PLEASE

I have 2 Silkie pullets that went broody they are in with the other silkie chickens. Today I went out to check on them and found one baby out of the box and dead. Should I bring them inside, the pullets, chicks and the rest of the eggs.? I have them in a milk carton it's on it's side and I can easily pick it up. I have a play pen I could put them in and both momma's are in the same carton. Both were raised in the house so I don't think it will be to much of a shock for them I don't know if my rooster killed it but I don't want to lose anymore.

I only have shaving to put in the play pen. Do you think that will be ok?

I'm going to the store for the drawer liner to put in the PP. I went back out and now I have 2 chicks dead. The one pullet got off the nest so I just have the one momma inside. I hear a peep under her.

Should I put a light with them or will she keep them warm? I've never had broody before I use the bator. I know what to do after they hatch from the bator but not when the momma does it.

I would get them away from the other chickens in the coop NOW.... The others will kill the chicks!

Sorry for your loss. I have my first broody right now too and am so worried something like this might happen after the eggs hatch.
I would bring them in if you could that way you can at least keep an eye on them. Of course another option is to just put the babies in your brooder and brood them yourself.

sounds like new mommy is not doing the best job. I would pull all the chicks and put in a brooder and raise them yourself. This happens sometimes unfortunatly.

I have them inside and I need to leave for a while. I will see how she is doing with them as soon as I get back. The one that is still in here is the first to go broody so I'm hoping the one that left the nest is the one that didn't watch her babies.

My friend just had one of her hens hatch some babies and the momma was killing them for some strange reason.
She had her in a area with another hen that had just hatched some babies and she didn't bother those chicks at all. Just her own. Maybe you are having the same problem????
I have chicks in with the rest of my flock and they get a little peck from now and then from someone but momma is keeping them safe. Good luck!

We have had other chickens kill (and eat

) new chicks. After this happened, we got strict about isolating the mama hen and babies. This has worked for us.
