Silkie Baby HAtched kinda Bloody with a cone looking head?

Looks like somebody may have pecked a blood vein, because that much blood isn't normal.
Try and keep him away from the others until that umbilical cord dries up, and he's on his feet.

Best of wishes

I just check the vein has dried and srunk up now to just a white string , is moving around not walking yet is wobbly though! there are only 2 others in there and 2 left to hatch

Sounds like theres no more worries

He'll be wobbly for a while. Going from being in an odd position
inside an egg, to walking and using his legs is a big thing!

Congrats and good luck

I've had a few hatch like that, and I just leave them in the incubator and the blood seems to dry up and they're fine the next day. Now, isn't there something about silkies having vaulted skulls? So maybe that skull shape will be ok? I would just wait and see!

I am new to Silkies, even to any kind of chickens I just started 2 months ago and it has turned in to a Silkie Obsession! But i have only got day olds, and grown ones never hatched on my own so this is a learnign process. So happy there is a place to share and learn more!!

Bad News/Good News

Seem vaulted head baby was doing better, was moving a round wobbly though, but passed in the night, I am deeply saddened by that. I took her out and discovered the baby had and area on the base of the neck that appeared it might have spina bifida, just like a human baby would have with a nural tube defect I have only seen it in person onetime when i was working as a home birth assitant to a midwife, but have seen pictures of it. So maybe it is good she died in her sleep and did not suffer. good news The other 2 that have hatched so far are running around doing good!

Well, incubating isn't for the faint of heart......I just hatched a batch of chicks myself, and it was my best hatch ever, and still, there was some sadness.....Three of the eggs never pipped and so I opened them and the babies were shrink wrapped and had passed....

But, like you, I just focus on the healthy ones! They are soooo darned cute! I have twelve--three little bantam Polish chicks, and then the rest are all bantam Cochins.....They're so fun to watch.....And this batch is super friendly...They just run to my hand and jump right on....I like to hand feed the babies to get them used to me.

Very funny pic....that little wet chick doing the happy dance!
