Hi everyone! This is my first time raising silkies and I am unsure if what I am seeing is normal. I can take pics when I get home from school, but one of my 6 week old babies is missing all baby fluff on her butt and her tummy... adult feathers seem to be starting to appear but not nearly as many as the other two 6 week olds have already grown in. Will she be bald forever?

Give her time, she may just be a little slower in the feathering department. Did she lose her feathers or did the others pull them out or what happened to them?

I got her at 4 weeks old so I am unsure. when she came to me she was already bald... but it doesn’t look natural.. it seems as though others pulled her feathers out in my opinion

Is she smaller? More timid? She may have been picked on. I had a problem last year with my BSLs picking the feathers off of my SLWs bum and eating them. Found out it was because they were not getting enough calcium, so they were eating feathers. I haven’t had any feather plucking with my silkies, except the usual peck and pull. But it might be something to look into also. Give them some oyster shells on the side, if they need it they will eat it. Can’t wait to see your baby! :jumpy

sorry for the terrible images but she is very behind her counterparts in growing and i am concerned.

Is she eating, drinking and pooping normally? If so I would just give her a little more time. If her feathers were plucked out by the others, it might take a little longer for them to grow in. If she acts sick or isn’t eating or drinking then I would worry.
