Silkies are so adorable, I plan on breeding lots of them and probably keeping most of them because I'm horrible at not getting attached to my animals

. I only have one silkie but I want to get a male. I think she's already broody, but she's not even laying yet.

When do they usually lay? Mine is almost a whole year but no avail. Well, I got a small white egg but I could've sworn it was my sultans, it was bigger than I thought a little silkie like mine would lay. Any tips? Does anyone know?

Sounds like a Silkie egg to me. She should be laying by now if she is a year old, but the change is weather may have something to do with too.

Yeah. I'm going to get them oyster shells to help them lay more. They only eat oats, grass, and human food. No pellets. So I need to get them more egg laying stuff. Is giving them only scraps abuse? They seem to like it.

Scraps probably are not providing all the nutrients they need and that may be the other reason for your egg problem. Remember though that Silkies are an ornamental breed and not a production breed so you won't get as many eggs anyway.

She has started laying! She's layed for about every day and a half. They're little round, white eggs!

Thanks! She is so adorable! I need to seperate my sultan and put her with the rooster so they can make some fertile eggs. I have someone who wants about six or something so I NEED those eggs! I also need to get a silkie rooster, I would love to get a white one but I also want a splash!

You might look for someone with fertile Silkie eggs and when she goes broody, which she probably will knowing Silkies, you could let her hatch the eggs and then you most certainly will end up with a roo or two. What color is yours. Just by chance if she is blue and you breed her with a blue, then you can get blue, black, and splash.

She is black. I don't like having chickens of the same color, so getting a different color would be awesome. I want to test her by putting a fake egg in the coop and she's the only one there (Besides another rooster) and I want to see if she'll sit on it, then I'll slide under the fertile ones.

I have had Silkies go broody after laying only one egg and I have had others that it takes a while before it happens.

Since she is black, if you get a blue roo then you would get 50-50 blue and black chicks or if you got a splash roo then you will get blue chicks. If I remember correctly that is .
