Good day!

I have an 8 yo silkie, one of 23 hens and one rooster; we live in California and the chickens are free to roam on half acre of dirt. Other hens appear healthy, few molting. Our birds also get scratch, organic leftover bread, fruit, veggies, scraps from the table. I noticed this horny growth yesterday but it appears chronic. Any thoughts, please? She does not appear to be in pain or compromised but it is blocking her nostril. Thanks, All. Happy New Year.

My guess is fowl pox, if it is it should go away in about 6 weeks from start to stop. If it doesn't go away my second guess would be a tumor, but just a guess.

It looks like a horny growth or tumor of some sort. I seriously doubt that it is caused by an infectious agent so there would be no need to remove her from the flock.
