Ok, so one of my silkies that I received from Ideal developed REALLY early. I could tell he was a roo at 6 weeks. His comb is very big and so are his wattles. My question is, if I were to breed him, would his maturing faster have any effect on his chicks? In other words, would they develop faster too? or is this just an individual thing?

Thank you

I don't know much, but I have a roo that crowed at six weeks and his first pullet is the fastest growing thing I ever saw... FWIW..

Thanks onthespot, that gives me some insight. I would like to know because then "maybe" I could develop a fast developing silkie

I was told that chicks slow to hatch can pass that gene on resulting in longer hatch times in offspring... so, if it's true, I would imagine that a faster maturing chick could indeed pass that gene on if it is gene related and not just environmental.
