My chocolate mottled silkie eggs are about to hatch, and I am preplanning what I want to do in my new silkie pen!

So question:
If I kept a chocolate mottled rooster and got a blue hen, would all of the offspring be mauve and will some be mauve mottled? I’m trying hard to research on these genetics but it’s just all so confusing!

Also, are there any other colors that could be paired with the chocolate mottled rooster?

Using a chocolate rooster over (most) other colored (non choclate) hens equals sex linked chicks. Chocolate hens to any other color rooster would be recessive (not showing) chocolate and non sexlinked offspring.

According to this chicken calculator (in the following link).. you will get 25% chocolate pullets and 25% mauve pullets.. with 25% black and 25% blue cockerels.

Mottling is recessive.. so will not *likely* show up in first generation crosses to non mottled birds.. according to my current understanding.

Hopefully you will get more (expert/experienced) feedback.

Happy hatching and chicken-eering! :jumpy

Thank you!! I thought only a solid chocolate rooster got the sex linked and didn’t work with chocolate mottled?

Unfortunately the calculator is in a different language, so I can’t figure it out

The second words & drop down tab is in English.

The mottling will not eliminate the sex linking of the chocloate when bred to non chocolate hens.

Thank you! I will keep trying to figure out the calculator!

That’s so cool that they are sex link! I guess I will need to make sure the rooster isn’t split to anything, and to find a way to tell which eggs were from the other non chocolate solid colored hens since I will still be keeping chocolate mottled hens too
