Hi everyone. We’ve had our silkie chick Rosie since March. She’s about 4 months old. She was completely healthy up until two weeks ago, when she came down with what looked like a really bad case of wry neck and trouble being steady on her feet.
We did take her to the vet, who said that it’s either a virus, congenital disease, or vitamin E deficiency. They said her prognosis was very poor. Seeing that some people have good success in treating wry neck, We opted to take her home and try vitamin E supplements and antibiotics. She was improving, up until today.
Today she’s incredibly unsteady on her feet, and can barely walk one step without tumbling forward and flopping everywhere, and has regurgitated a few times. When she stands still, she holds one foot up in the air. She is still eating and drinking heartily. Her poop is normal. No coughing or sneezing. She is still grooming.
We aren’t sure what else to do or try, or if it’s best to put her at peace.
She has been separated from the rest of the flock since we’ve had her, so there’s no concern about spreading something contagious.
I tried to attach a video of her standing like a flamingo trying to balance and then taking a head first tumble, but it looks like I can only attach photos.
Any input or advice is greatly appreciated!
