I have zero experience with silkies but my daughter really wanted one to add to our newly hatched chicks. I got this one today at FF&H. I know they order from Townline hatchery. It's not for show (4 toes but I chose it anyway!) just a pet for my daughter and hopefully a female to be our broody someday! Any ideas what color this will be? I thought they only had white but I don't think this will be white.

Silkies come in all colors. I have white, black, buff, paint, and partridge. camera can play tricks here but looks like you got a buff I think, could also be a white. I got several silkie chicks I thought were buff but they are now white as a snowball. :-)

Thank you - I know, the lighting is so tricky. Looked yellow with grey on its back in the store - totally different at home. I borrowed an idea from a friend on BYC and used a white towel to try to show the color better. Here at home it looks like dusty blue/grey on its back and the yellow is whiter than my wheaten maran chicks which are pale yellow.

Here's one a little better near a window. It's next to a yellow wheaten maran chick. Any ideas girl or boy?

That shows the color better, but I'll be honest this is a tricky one!! I'm thinking maybe a splash now since you mention the bluish tint. No guess on gender, takes quite a while to distinguish that on silkies, make sure to post pics as it grows!! I'm gonna bet it will be beautiful!! Very nice quality silkie, except the 4 toe part, I have both show quality and pet quality and it's very easy to get attached to them regardless of the quality! :-)

Thank you for your help! My young daughter was so happy to see it in the brooder when she got home from school. As expected, her first question was "what color is it going to be?" I'm glad I chose one with some pizzazz! :D

awww your silky is sooo cute!!!! I read somewhere that you can not tell what sex a silky is until it is 6 months old . I hope mine will be a girl. But yours defiantly has pizazz!!!!
