I recently purchased & hatched out some silkie eggs for a fun winter project. We were surprised to see a light grey baby among the yellow chicks. I read that they feather out to white. Is this a desirable trait? Is it common? I am not planning on getting into breeding them, I was just curious. It’s adult feathers are white, but almost more silvery white when next to the yellow chicks white adult feathers. (Or maybe that is just my thinking)

White can be recessive which means that it can have other colors underneath the white. I can get silver partridge and red pyle from my whites. It is most likely a self blue or POSSIBLY lavender. Chicks can change color when grown up so just be aware.

Yes looks like possibly self blue which is the same as lavender. Could also be a splash they often look like this at hatch and then start to develop their little splashes later on. Let us know how this one feathers out!😊
They are currently 4.5 weeks old, & he is looking white. Granted he looks like a different white than the yellow chicks to me.😂 (& yes, I am suspecting cockerel based on behavior)
