Hello, eveyone!

Our 3 year old silkie hen has started to breathe heavily with open mouth for long periods of time.

(pls see video on YouTube : Silkie hen breathing open mouth

I don´t know what to do?!! I´m very thankful for any advice you might have!

Could it be Gapeworm or could it just be stress?? The thing is that she is half way into going broody + her
sister since 3 years recently passed away. We did not want her to be lonely, so we have gotten two new
small hens a couple of daus ago to be her new company (they are about 5 month, have not started laying).

They are kept on the other side of the yard, separated by a net, but our 3-year old has shown some aggresion
towards them. But we assume that is normal, before getting used to them, right?

Thanks!

When was the last time she laid an egg? Is her crop emptying overnight? I do not think you should let her brood if there could potentially be something wrong with her, it's hard enough on a healthy hen's body.

Thanks for your replies! Actually, she just layed an egg, and now seems like herself again!! So great!! :) Probably then it was the stress of both broodiness and the egg, that made her breathe like that.. or what do you think? The tempretaure is not that hot, it´s about 20 degrees Celsius (68 F), and overcast.

Definitely not the heat
