It's Silkie Chick Photo Time!


My little Bantam Silkie chicks (and one Booted Bantam x D'Anvers chick) are now all just over 1 week old.

This week in the UK we've had some super hot weather which isn't common for us.

Today it was 36 Degrees Celsius (possibly higher) so I even had to switch off the chicks brooder light/heater and leave the door open for some cool air. Warm weather can be nice but this is just too hot over here.

On Tuesday when they were officially 1 week old, I had them some supervised time out in our garden. They seemed to enjoy their time out in some fresh air!

Of course, I took photos so here are plenty for you all to have a look at.

I'm tempted to do some prints of a few these but we'll see.

These chicks will be for sale when they are totally off heat at around 5-6 weeks old depending on weather (except the cross breed Bantam). Prices are a difficult one to decide on

There is both pet and potential show quality/standard chicks.

I have 9 more due to hatch over the next few weeks.

I took the liberty of making one that shows the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the his expression.

Obviously, all credit to @Fur-N-Fowl. I added a thought bubble to one of her gorgeous pictures in like 30 seconds in paint. More than happy to take it down if it's not ok for any reason. Just thought she and others might get a chuckle out of it.

How do you take such great pictures anyway? Do you just take them outside and set them down in the grass and follow them around with the camera waiting for a good shot? How do you get the background to be all blurry like that? Is that something you do in photoshop afterwards? I really like it. Makes it peaceful to look at/really puts the focus on the subject.

I'm back from holiday now! Internet is back on as normal so I can get back to replying.

I get my pictures with a lot off patients...chicks don't always want their photos taken

That is what I do though, I just pop them on the grass in my garden and I crawl around the floor or do some weird position to get a decent photo!

The blurred background is just how my camera takes it when I focus on a certain thing. I have a Canon 450D with a long lens which it's been a pretty decent camera.

I have more photos which I will share later on!
