I really want a silkie chicken. But I live in the Pacific Northwest where it's rainy 9 months of the year and muddy for 10 months. If I got a silkie would it just drown from being in the rain all of the time? I have a coop and a covered area but my chickens free range in a field and I'm worried that if she tried to join the flock then she'd end up all soggy. Anyone in the PNW have silkies?

You could always have an inside girl. But, then again its not very practical for most people, considering the smell, mess, housing, poop, and more. A lot of times they don't mind being wet. As long as she has a accessible covered area and it's not cold or chilly, she will be fine. Best of luck!

Many out here keep silkies, and not just as house pets. Good management can provide a clean, dry (relative.....mostly meaning not a mud pit) coop and run with happy, healthy birds. Deep litter method in the run with part or all of the run being roofed goes a long way in providing plenty of outdoor living space that can be used year round
