Silkie chicks and adding more

We currently have 12 silkie chicks aged 5/6 weeks old. We want to add some sure pullets to them now before they go outside together. I have a few breeds to choose from that are available in my area. I’m not sure which ones would be best. Suggestions? How do we mix them together? We are new to this.

We don’t necessarily need a lot more eggs just would like to supplement the silkies. All of the ones below are roughly the same age.

1- Barred rock
2- red sex links
3- buff orphingtons

I would totally add some barred Rocks, incredibly friendly and fantastic layers. Buff Orpingtons are beautiful as well.

Are barred rocks pretty easy to sex at 6 weeks? Trying to eliminate more possible roosters if we can.

Yes, I believe so, because usually they will be double barred rather than single. (appear lighter in color than hens)

Although RSL are sexable at birth.

Yes, but they are quite nasty. They lay a lot, but mine are just mean to baby chicks, and even the chickens they grew up with. But they are very pretty!

I've never had any, so I don't know much about them. That's good to know!
