Silkie chicks from Ideal Hatchery

I would highly suggest getting them young as juliechick said. Its also better to get two because chickens are companion animals.

Look up chicken diapers on the internet. This helps so they don't poop everywhere in the house.

Well I did it finally. Sick of trying to get silkie eggs to hatch. I just received a dozen silkie chicks from Ideal that I ordered yesterday. So far they look pretty good. We have bearded and non bearded and seem to all have the right combs. I checked over toes briefly and they look like they are all there! LOL Some have vaulted heads and others not. I realize that Ideal quality means pet stock, but I am not unhappy with these. I want them as pets and fun for our ranch anyhow.

I do have a pic of one of our Ideal Silkies. I purchased her from a lady who bought her and a few hundred from Ideal last year. She is a grey and as sweet as pie. She was missing some feathers on her back from breeding here, but otherwise she looks about the same. My daughter named her Sushi.

I ordered 18 silkie chicks from I deall all doing great and about 8 wks old. will post pic's after work.

countrymom I think silkie hen from ideal is very nice coming from a hatchry. Hope him turn out just as nice.

I have not ordered silkies from ideal but did order many other breeds that turned out beautiful IMO...see my website for pics. The only ones not ordered from ideal are the silkies, cochins, the splash orps, Golden Phoenix, and the polish. Those I hatched out. Everything else was from ideal.

I am loving these little silkie chicks. I can see the difference in only some of their little feathers now as far as fluff, but am surprised at how many are vaulted and even a couple with beards. All are happy and healthy and they did travel in pretty cool weather. It has been down in the 50's at night. They did arrive with "packing peanuts" which looked to be RIR roos, but I freecycled those and they are GONE! LOL Julie's Silkies I can't wait to see how yours turned out. What colors did you get?

Hangin with Peeps, I love your pictures! We have one Welsummer and she looks just like yours. I wish we had more of those and may work on that in the spring. Ours is super super sweet.

The only birds I do not have from Ideal are the one lone cucko silkie chick, a Braggs Mountain Buff, a rescued splash Marans crossed roo and six BBS Orps from ebay eggs I won. The rest and the most of our chicks are from Ideal. Can't say I am unhappy with them, however, I am not a show breeder. I have these chickens mainly for our entertainment and eggs.

I got my lavender silkies from Ideal. They are the sweetest things ever, and I got 1 bearded with a vaulted skull, and 3 nonbearded. Pictures are on my website if you want to see them.
