I have 3 silkie chicks hatch out black but now they are getting orangish feathers in. Any idea what color they are? Partridge possibly? And I had one hatch out white/silver but turning white and black. Some pics of when they were first hatched. I thought partridge looked more chipmunk like so I’m confused

This is normal with silkies of partridge variety. My sister's silkie was a pure black chick, & grew into a beautiful partridge rooster.

Looks silver Columbian.
You have like 2, partridge silkies.
Hmmm….I’ve never heard of a silver Colombian silkie. I hatched these from my birds just for fun- I don’t know which one this chick belonged to but my hens are 2 whites and a black and the rooster choices are either buff or blue. Interested to see what it looks like once it is fully feathered.

I get Partridge, Blue Partridge, White Barred, & Silver Partridge out of mine. Some of mine are also split for Lavender.
Buff silkies are Columbian with a partridge base.

Silver Columbian isn't that common in silkies, but they do pop up.

Can we see a picture of the parent birds?

Is he large fowl? Body type, feather type, comb size, & stance makes him look like a Chinese Silkie.View attachment 2706185View attachment 2706186
All silkies originate from China 🙂

The difference I've seen between UK and US silkies, is that you've bred extra poofiness and much larger crests, while UK silkies have slightly harder wings and tails (the roosters still have the central feather rachis there).

We always joke over this side of the pond that Americans always like it bigger and better! 😁 Not always a bad thing!

Do you keep silkies?
