Silkie chicks!

So cute! Can't wait for mine to hatch.

Thank you everyone, I think they're adorable little things! Although I would have loved it if the buff egg had hatched, and maybe one of the blacks! Over all though I'm pretty satisfied with them! I just hope they're mostly girls! I really want my two to be girls, although I'd settle for a boy and girl.

jackiedon please do post pics of your chicks, I'd love to see them! I might become a silkie junky! Even though right now I'm only planning to have the two, that could change if they turn out to be boy and girl. If they turn out to be both boys I'll probably have to rehome one or both, but I'll probably have to talk my mom into giving me a few more eggs.

The darker one that said cuckoo may turn out to be black. The other should get nice striped on it. When you breed cuckoo, if you breed cuckoo over black you can get either striped or solid chicks. (as least I do anyhow) I guess it would depend on who you got them from. They may be breeding cuckoo to cuckoo to get all cuckoo.

Anyhow, Very cute chicks you have there! I have some due to hatch myself next week, and I have one little cuckoo chick internally pipped this morning. I have my fingers crossed that it will hatch! JEN

I would be very happy if it turns out black, I'm not sure how it was bred, I bought them off ebay and know the breeder keeps all different colors separate, but don't know for sure how they do the cockoo's. I could ask, and I might do that (to satisfy my curriousity). But I would be very happy for it to be black, that would mean we got every color except Buff, there were 3 eggs marked black, but none hatched. I did read that cockoo's were normally blue looking when they were born, although I can tell this one from the blues! It has more color in it!

I did read up on the breeding of cockoo's, but without know exactly how these were bred I just took her word for it.

Good luck with your's I hope you post when you have babies!
