hi there! decided to start a new thread in preference of silkie chicks im getting in two weeks. im getting them from tropical chickies if anybody has reviews about them I would love to read them!! also I wanted to ask if anybody knows how to tell if a one day old chick is a boy or girl( I only want females) plus wondering if how to make sure my chicks are healthy! thanks for your help!

Silkies are very difficult to sex. I have learned that even if you think it is a pullet or cockerel it is easy to be fooled until they get older.

Mypetchicken does sell sexed bantams (vent sexed)- I believe they are the only ones doing it...not sure. Learning to vent sex takes lots of training, and so it isn't something you can pick up immediately. The thing to do is buy twice as many as you need, and then probably half will be male.
