Silkie color genetics chart?

Are you referring to the skin pigment when you say black won't display?

As I'm reading but paints, what about paints? They're supposed to be dom white, definitely have the hackle discoloration and pigment holes in the skin but do have black skin and black spots.

No, I'm referring to feathering. Paint is not dominant white. It is thought to be an allele of dominant white, but not plain old dom. white.

AWESOME. That would be OK with me!!! I have always favored blue chickens. Not sure why.....
Im not planning on breeding my silkies for any other reason than for pets, I was just curious what a splash over a white would produce. I kind of hope I grab a can of cherries.

If the white is recessive I believe the offspring should also be blue with this color mating. If the white is dominant then the offspring would be white.

You are forgetting that the recessive white also carries many other genes. Most white silkies are e^b based, and getting a true blue bird from a white parent would be akin to winning the lottery. Since a dominant white only contributes one copy of the gene to its offspring, and the other is clearly not dominant white, the offspring will strngly leak pheomelanin (red/gold pigment). Unless, of course, it inherits silver instead of gold.

I think it is plain dominant white...

Please elaborate. I would really like your input. I feel like so little is known, and so many questions.

Simple. There is no reason why it would be another allele. Silkies are burdened with enough mysterious other genes to explain differences.

Chick down and adult plumage indicate that the paints are dominant white. In order to determine if there is a paint allele, test crosses would have to be performed.

I have produced paints by using dominant white. Go to the last page on the string below

There is another gene that Hutt published and he called it erminette and the phenotype resembles a paint. I do not have the paper but need to go to the university and get a bunch more papers. When I do, I will be able to discuss the phenotype in more detail.
