So, this itty bitty just hatched yesterday, unsure of parentage, but it's either out of a black silkie hen, or a hamburg x black silkie hen and a white silkie roo or cuckoo silkie roo. I'm new to this silkie chick thing, so I'm wondering what colour this little one is... is this a grey? A white with the black skin showing? What say the experts?

And then there's last months runt, hatched Feb 24, so just shy of 7 weeks and half the size of my 6 week chicks. "Before" and "after" photos just for comparison. Is this one partridge? Black silkie (with a hint of frizzled feathers) mom with gold leakage on neck with a white roo father. Is this a drizzle or just a messy looking silkie? My 6 week chicks are super fluffy... not like this hot mess.

And one more just for the fun of it... Is this baby bearded? (See? Proper fluff! 6weeks) 20210413_020931.jpg 20210413_020918.jpg

Thank you, my lovelies! :love

First one is blue, second one is partridge and third one is indeed bearded! Gorgeous birds!🥰

Genetically speaking, would a blue be possible? Maybe with the pure black silkie hen and the white rooster with Murphy only knows hiding under it? It's one of the prettiest chicks I've ever owned truthfully, it's a super silvery blue in the sunlight, Saturdays supposed to be nice, I'll grab a pic when I take them out for the day. All I know about blue is the BBS rule... Does that mean I can rule out the barred one fathering it?

And would that make her a frizzed partridge? I wish I had my picts from my other phone of the Slightly frizzled Silkie hen...may e that gold leakage I've been looking at is a poor example of partridge after all?

Thank you, you're a darling to indulge me! :love

You are quite welcome! I find chicken color genetics fascinating. Your white silkie rooster could be hiding just about anything. White silkies are mostly recessive white (except with paint breeding, but that is a whole different story). White silkies commonly "hide" partridge. Mine has blue in his background and throws blue chicks with black hens. Yours could be as well.
With a barred father and black mother, all chicks would be barred.
Your light partridge could be frizzled (sizzle) hard to tell with silkies sometimes until it is all feathered in. Are either of the parents frizzled? 😊

The partridge baby's mother is this one, and until the little one showed up with such outrageous feathering I only thought of her as a poorly feathered silkie 😅 20210416_233702.jpg
(I realized I never got the pictures off my shattered phone, so tried to grab a new one by the light of my flash in the dark coop! I'll grab another in the daylight when she's standing.)

Her sister, the one I assume is the mother of the new babe is wonderfully bunny soft and fluffy 20210416_223144.jpg
