I think this is a beautiful picture!

I love looking at all of these pictures. I have a pullet that looks similar to one of the girls in the beginning of this thread. She was suppose to be a NN. The breeder said it was a mix up and she was from a showgirl x silkie. She has smooth feathers and no naked neck. She also has a beard and crest, so she will be breeding with my Naked neck :)

Thank you, we just love her/him!

"If you breed a Silkie rooster to a non Silkie hen, the males will be inbetween and the females will have dark skin. If you breed a non Silkie rooster to a Silkie hen the females will be light skinned and the males will be in between." Quote from I forget who ?

I would like to have votes on how many find this is true and how many folks do not find this as true ?

HDOWDEN Do you have any babies from Oatmeals fertilized eggs ? I am curious since oatmeal was such a pretty rooster !

So far I have not had any full grown silkie mix rooster, The one that I do have is only a week old and I may not keep him since he look to be an easter egger but is from a brown egg. If I keep a easter egger mixed with a silkie I want him to carry the blue egg gene so he must at least develop from a green/blue egg.

would let you know but when oatmeal was alive i never noticed a skin difference he looked the same as the pullets did

not yet they just went into lock down so in at least 4 days i should know but my 1 year old accidentally turned the bator off and i have no clue for how long but it was down in the 70's when i noticed it :-( when i candled them most looked to still be alive :D

if he's part ee he should carry the blue egg laying gene as long as one of his parents carried the gene

I do not see how my little chipmunk would carry the blue gene since father is a silkie but not a mix and mother is a brown eggs layer wyandotte. I do not have a new picture yeat but the wings have dots on the feathers.

this is true ONLY if the none silkie rooster have clear shanks(white or yellow) meaning they have the dominant sex linked Dermal Inhibitor gene(Id/Id) otherwise if the none silkie rooster have dark/black/willow/green/slate/ shanks all of the chicks will have black skin(boys skin will get lighter with age but you will be able to tell he carries the Fibromelanotic gene)

now this is the easiest way to create sexlinks, you will be able to tell females from males at hatch.. use a silkie rooster over a none silkie hen with white shanks and ALL of the hens will have black skin at hatch and boys will have clear/white skin making them sexable from hatch!...Why? the autosomal Fibromelanosis gene(Fm) needs the recessive sex linked none dermal inhibitor gene(id+/id+) to be able to express the dark skin, even if boys carry one dose of Fm(Fm/fm+) and one dose of id+ from dad, their mother´s Id(dominant over id+) overrides this and wont allow for the boys to have black skin
