hello i bought a silkie cross (i dont no what she is crossed with) last sunday becouse the man said they were good broodys my main broody pure bred in my profil pcture got killed :( she went broody 4 times every year i am wondering do silkie crosses go broody more often/less often/the same as a pure bred and would they lay more and allso one more thing what would be the best silkie to go broody blue/black/white or all the same ect in your expirence

Ok, let me know! I am in San Diego, so if they happen to ship chicks, that'd be perfect.
Naamahbengals,

Here's the LF sillkie(not sure M or F?, but have a smallish single comb and medium hanging wattles) that I just got today, compare to a tuftless/ beardless bantam silkie hen. I asked, unfortunately, they said no selling of day old chicks or hatching eggs

But, if you don't mind a large almost laying age hen or rooster/cockerel, I might be able to help on that

p.s. sorry this is a silkie cross thread and these aren't silkie cross, but pure(?). Just thought some might like to see a LF silkie comparison

Hmm. It is a bit bigger! I wonder how much a pullet or cockerel would cost, and to ship too, though.

Chocolate English Bantam Orp over my black sizzle hen. She is Chocolate and I hope frizzled. I rescued her peeping egg from a first time momma that changed her mind once the eggs started to move. She hatched in my pocket! So glad its a girl or at least thats what my research shows.......

Just like silkies, it depends on the bird itself to how often they will go broody in a year. Mine are the same as my silkies for broodiness and egg size/ amount. Color plays no part in a bird going broody or not.

Hi All,
Here is a pic of the silkie crossed with a guinea hen, (I think, judging by the coloration). The one in the front is the one we think is a cross. Notice, no hat, and you can slightly see the speckles in her wings.

Since then we had 3 more hatch out, but these are all silkie.

Here's one of the chicks, OK Pose for the camera now.

What a ham !!!
Axe
Is there a big version of this now?
