Hi

Today a hawk attached my flock of silkies. One, about 4 months old was found alone laying. When I picked it up it was making a gasping noise every so often and couldnt move its neck. it was fully limp. I tried to lay it down, but it kept gasping and had blood coming from the mouth slightly. Then it went lifeless. All within 10 minutes. Could I have done anything better? I don't want this to happen again

Welcome to BYC - sorry for the circumstances. There is nothing more you could have done. The impact of the hawk strike plus damage from its talons were just more than she could survive. Be aware that the hawk will make more attacks on your flock. Can you keep them enclosed in a covered pen/coop?

I'm sorry about your loss.
There's nothing you could have done.
You might want to fence over your run, silkies are high risk chickens since they can see well or fly.

Thanks all. I do have them in a run that’s enclosed but let them
Out for a little bit. What was werid is i didn’t see any damage to the chicken. Was wondering was it just shocked or have internal damages of some kind. I picked it up and wasn’t sure if I should have
