silkie ears changing color with age?

I have a question...

I am noticing that my silkie roo's ears start out bright blue as youngsters, but as they age they turn dark purple in color.

Three roos with this issue so far.

The pullet's ears seem to stay blue (same breeder).

Is this normal?

Yes, it is a pretty common occurance. With some plumage colours it seems more prevalent (buff in particular, also partridge)
