Do silkies tend to have larger yolks? I cracked an egg and the yolk was huge in relation to the amount of white and the shell it came out of. I'm going to hard-boil the next one to get a better idea of white vs yolk.

That's a great idea!.....cutting the HB egg in quarters lengthwise would give the best views of the yolk to albumen ratio.
Is this a new layer(s)?
Just one bird or more?

There was thread semi-recently about huge yolks with little whites,
IIRC there was no consensus on explanation.

Ill hard boil tomorrow and post a pix. Actually I will boil all the silkie eggs I have.

Not a new layer. Not really sure which of the 2 silkies laid it, but one is almost a year old and one is almost 2 years old.

I'm seeing the same thing with my Silkies, The eggs are small and yolks are much more than white. They still taste great !
Also notices that the membrane is much thicker and when I crack the egg I still have to puncture the membrane with my finger to get everything out

( My pet poops breakfast)

I just had my first and second egg ever! They were from my little silkie cross Ebony! They were tiny and creamy. I was suprised that the shell was super strong, and the yolk was huge and bright orange. So maybe the smaller the egg, the yolk stays about the same and the white shrinks?
