Silkie Experts - Need critiquing

[Year of the Rooster]

What are your opinions about this White rooster? Don't be afraid to be brutal

. I already know he has vulture hocks, at least, it was very prominent when he was younger.

Also, if it's possible, what do you think of the rooster in the back of this pic?

I am not sure about nonbearded silkies. He could use some more feathering in the foot area. I can't tell aabout his tail feathers from that veiw. Can you take a butt pic and front pic

There's a bit too many hard feathers in their tails. Their top knots could be bigger and more full. Their foot feathering could be better.

Those are bearded silkies, not non-bearded, they just have poor wattle coverage. Should be much better than that. I get one like that occasionally. Should have better foot and leg feathering, they look leggy to me, but that could just be my preference.

Nice dark eyes and comb (and wattle). Both are lacking in beard & crest. The one in front has better earlobes (very nice colour), but his wing is slipped. The one in back also holds his wings too much downwards, but they are not slipped. He doesn't have the vulture hocks. They both look leggy to me also, but part of that could be age--silkie roos continue to mature for a couple or three years. How wide (side to side) is he? Wide is good, but I can't tell at all from the photo angles.

Depending on the hen, you may get some good quality babies from them. But you will probably also get a fair number who are of pet quality.

Thank you all for responding. I am not quite positive if they are bearded or not. I thought they were, but either their beards are small or they are not bearded. Hard to tell.

No, I am not looking to improve on my flock, I was just curious to know as these are my first silkies and I would just like to know what flaws they have. I am not surprised though as I ordered them from Ideal. I do agree that their top knots could be better.

Sonoran Silkies:
I can tell you that the first one definitely has vulture hocks. They were very prominent when he was younger. The second one is a different rooster. They are approximately 18-19 weeks old now, so I am sure you are right on being leggy. They seem kind of tall at times.

If I remember right, vulture hocks are not a DQ but they are also an unwanted trait? Am I right on this?

The hens however are smaller than these guys. I'd say maybe half or 2/3 the size. I think they look better but who knows. I may have to show you pics of them.

Vulture hocks are a DQ in breeds that are not supposed to have them, but I have never seen a judge pay any attention to them whatsoever. Many of my birds have vulture hocks. I think if the bird is pouffy enough they end of kind of blending in once he is grown.

Ive read that in silkies they are a defect, but I have heard the when judged most judges dont take any points off for them.
