Have a white pet quality silkie that is between 8-10 weeks old or so.
Fairly nice bird that my kids can handle alot. But just recently I am noticing a comb and wattles that look suspicious. Now I am not certain of age, but am guessing based on size. i got this from a friend. Poof is smaller and not show quality and looks the same as the other two littermates as well, so not sure of streamers in there. what do you think

100% roo.

The comb takes time to get big like you see on adult roos. Look at the shape of the head- the poof isn't rounded like a hen "afro", it's more swept back and you can clearly see the streamers popping out the top. He's very cute, and my Silkie roo is the sweetest bird I own.

I wouldn't say 100% cockerel. Look at this thread. This one looked a bit rooish but its just because they are pet quality. I don't think any hatchery silkie has a rounded afro. It doesn't have the type of a rooster either. IMO, if it were a pet quality rooster at that age, it would have a much bigger comb.

Actually, I have both hatchery Silkies and well bred Silkies from breeders- all my hatchery Silkie hens have the rounded poof. My roos look like this one. The one in the thread you posted looks like a hen, but to me, this one does not.

That pullet was 5 months, and days away from laying. This chick is 8-10 weeks, so I would say definate roo.

Ok just realized that she is closer to 12-15 weeks... would this make a difference?
