I was wondering if the genes for the silkie feathering is dominant or recessive? Does it require both parents to have silkie feathering to show in the offspring? Trying to learn a bit more about this as I have a bunch of mixed and silkie chicks... Some are smooth feathered and some seem to be silkie feathered. There was a silkie roo and a cochin roo and both breeds of hens too. If the cochin roo fertilized silkie eggs will the resulting chicks all be smooth feathered? And will they possibly carry the silkie genes? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Yes it's recessive.
Yes if you cross a smooth feathered (not carrying a silkie gene ) with a silkie the offspring will be smooth but all will carry one silkie gene.
It doesn't take two silkies to produce a silkie but it does take a silkie gene from each parent so they either need to be silkie or carry a silkie gene.
