Hello everyone I have a couple questions. I have bought some high quality silkies so they all have amazing crest. I’ve heard at least one crow so I know at least ones a male. They are all the same age at about 3 months. 1) can you tell gender based off weight or sound? I have two that are a lot lighter then the rest of the birds and I’m wondering if they are females.2) I also have some that their clucks sound different then the other birds? Can you tell by that. My birds also have fowl pox right now so that’s what the thing on his beak is. I’m using iodine for the scabs and am using medicated feed. Thank you. I think the picture I put up is a male but I’m not positive.

It does look high quality. Silkies are tough to sex, especially good quality birds. This one looks to have a large comb for its age, so it could be a cockerel. I am not sure that weight is a great predictor of gender in bantams. They are so variable. But it might be that your lighter weight ones are females.

The best chance we have of helping is with comb and body shots of the birds in question. It helps to bruch the crest feathers aside for a really good shot of those combs. Also, it helps to see the wattles. Non-bearded Silkies will have them, bearded silkies won't.

They don’t have any wattles I’ve already checked. What do you mean move the crest? They right now all have pretty small combs about the size of my adult hens. One has a much bigger comb that’s more clumpy then flat.
The crest is that fluffy top-knot on their heads, pull it back off the comb and take a pic. My guess would be that clumpy combed one is your rooster...
