We have two silkie hens that just started to lay eggs. Today I got a text from my wife telling me that one of the silkies (alpha female type that is adventurous and likes to roam) gone missing inside the house when they came back home leaving behind 3 poops. We searched everywhere and can't find it! One of the silkie is just kicking back inside the box by itself and don't seem to care about the missing silkie which it could not live without until few days ago. We looked everywhere. Check perimeter of each area like three times and nothing! My wife even said jokingly that it might got flushed down the toilet and that perhaps silkie thief came... Is there a special area silkies like to hide in the house in particular? I am worried that it might get broody and stay at a secret spot and not come out for long time. Help us find our silkie!

Did you look up also? While Silkies can not fly very well, they can jump a bit.

I have heard of chickens turning up behind fridges in a shed after a fright, so look in all the places you would not expect to find her.

Do they respond to any particular noises or actions, feed bowl, clucking noises etc?

Not much help I know, but I really just wanted to subscribe to see if you do find her and where! ;)

2x Teila ... If the Silkie was in the house, it's still there somewhere. Do you have a doggie door? open window? Have you checked in boxes? Containers? Cabinets? Closets? Behind clothes? Laundry hamper? Behind stove? Following cause sure would like to know where it went :pop

We finally found it close to our bed time at a place we didn't expect much by accident. We use using flash light to shine every space and saw a fluffy white object at the far corner of the sofa. It somehow crawled through ~4 inch high front frame of the sofa and squatting at the far end. We were able to slide it out with 2 sticks to push it from behind. I didn't know chickens liked such tight spot. Now we know where to look if it goes missing again!

I will probably have this problem soon. One of my silkie biddies has a bad leg and will probably be a house chicken and loves to squish into tight places like under its plush unicorn horse or under all the other chickens (which I don't like it doing since I don't want it hurt worse)

Maybe one of those "play pen" for dogs would work, that way she's safe & won't get squished. You can make it as big as you want, she gets her own space :) Just an idea

Glad you found her. Try training both of them to come when called with treats. Its like training a dog. After about a week they should come when you call them.I just use the word "come" for mine an they all come running or flying when they hear me.
