Silkie gone. Nothing but feathers :( More raccoons, more deaths.

ok not to be mean cause I am very sorry for what you are going through. Chicken wire is no good at all. People say Hardware cloth for a reason. There are hundreds of threads where people talk about how chicken wire does next to nothing and can be broken and chewed through. 1/2" hardware cloth minimum the bottom 3 feet (2 feet is too short) and at least 24 inches from bottom out wards so nothing can dig in. Until you do these things you will be loosing chickens.

I strongly feel that the coons work in teams and one scares the birds into running around while the other reaches in and grabs.

Don't give up just do what is needed you can beat them.

the fact that the coon did not go into the trap also is a little concerning. either it has been trapped and released and now knows it is a trap. Or it realized that an easier meal was the chickens.

Good luck. Your polish was a real cutie

For the same reasons we like these chickens- the chickens are friendly, inquisitive and outgoing. These chickens are also usually handled frequently, so are used to hands reaching in to give them treats or pats.

Sorry about your losses. Don't give up. You'll win out in the end.

Electric Fence is not that expensive and works well.

I suspect that you have a coon that has been trapped before and released to be your headache.

Now you know why we all say to kill what you trap and not to relocate it.

So sorry for your loss, hang in there.
