My three month old silkie has started twitching her neck or having a neck spasm. I read that this could be a vitamin deficiency so I started giving her Poly Vi Sol and vitamin E three days ago. I am very concerned about her although she doesnt seem to have any other problems. Her appetite is great, she is growing at the same rate as the other two silkies. She does everything that the other two do. Any suggestions. Thanks for any advice that you can offer. dsbevis

. At this point you are doing everything possible to fix wry neck to the best of my knowledge.

Silkies are also prone to head injuries and they are not as easily cured as wry neck. I would keep her in a safe, quiet place to recover and hopefully, all will be well. Some find that it takes prednisone to alleviate the swelling if, in fact, it is brain trauma and not wry neck.

I took my silkie to a local vet that treats farm animals. I was very impressed with his knowledge of chickens. He grew up with chickens and he knew exactly how to handle her and gave her a thorough exam. He looked in her ears, nose, throat and felt of her entire body. He discovered that she has a hole in the roof of her mouth that is open to her sinuses. He stated that this is a birth defect. He explained that the twitching of her neck is when she is trying to get food out of the opening. There is nothing that can be done and she is growing fine and does all of the same things that her siblings are doing. Just thought I would share this...seems really weird but I guess she will be fine. We just have to watch for any signs of sinus infection. Thanks to all that replied. Also I have one other question about silkies. Do silkies accept new members to the flock easily. We had some bantams that were not very accepting of our silkies and we had to separate them permanently. Thanks,
