Silkie Haters

I used to always say "yuck, I don't like silkies" and "I would never own one". Until one day ... I went to a pet fair and there was a harmless little scruffy silkie roo there, ( or so I thought) and the next thing I knew he looked into my eyes and I found myself saying ... must HOLD the silkie ... must PET the silkie... must HAVE a silkie

... so beware silkie haters, or one day they WILL have you too under their control.

A broody silkie will eat an entire poodle in one sitting. They eat their prey alive. It ain't pretty.

heh, i named mine Fozzie because i was thinking of the muppets at the time i named him/her. unfortunately my dog also seems to like silkies.....as a fuzzy play thing. grabs it by the tail to give it a BIIIG lick when he catches it!

and they are only evil if you look them in the eyes and start collecting them. i only have one.....so far!

I LOVE silkies but cant have them for fear of 'the hawk' attack.. I also love poodles and shih tzus!! ha! Have tzus, want a standard poodle....... im a fuzzy lover............................is that bad? hehe

I love the silkies, but IN MY EXPERIENCE they have a rough time when it comes to predators - as have some of my other bantams in general. But, I have to say most of them are awesome chickens and have their own place in our flock. I have one that has never laid me an egg yet, but she has, will, and does mother anything that she can coax over to her with her broody style clucking. I use her to brood my chicks and intro them to the rest of the flock. She doesn't care if they just hatched or are several weeks old - she MUST have babies ALL the time, lol.

she is NOT an attractive silkie, or show quality by any means, but she does serve a vital funtion in our family and in our flock. I think I will probably always keep a couple of silkies around for this purpose - and people just love to ask about them. They are a great way for people who think chickens are ugly or nasty to get some experience being around a "cute" chicken. I have a cousin, who is somewhat of a diva, who just LOVES my silkies and polish. After interacting with the rest of my flock she now likes them too and is wanting a place in the country so she can have some - they do make great chicken ambassadors because they are so unique.....
