Silkie Health concerns

He still has his episodes but he's walking around more. It's almost like he gets a muscle twinge or somethin sometimes. I think he gets bored during the day as well.

He may be lonely for more of his kind. Chickens are very social creatures and really do need other chickens around them to stay mentally healthy. But if you give him enough attention, you can take the place of another bird! Yes, it is hard, but it can be done.

I wonder if he had a docile companion - actually another chick or chicken - in a wire divided pen where they could see each other but, not fight. Just having another bird around would probably satisfy him. Over time he might even get long with it - when eventually put together. I wonder if he prefers one of his own kind- another silkie but a female, so they won't fence fight.

Probably the wrong thing to suggest, I know what you have gone through with just ONE silkie, another might be the last straw. He is such a beautiful bird, it's not fair that he has so many problems to carry with him.

I've considered this as well. But my husband quickly said "no! We are not going to get him buddies" he seems to like the bunny. But I can't leave her out there unattended because she fits through the slats in the pen. I'm thinking if tomorrow is nice I can have them out together before work.

rabbits are highly territorial. I would not allow them to be alone if it were me.

If you can't get him a companion, perhaps it would be best for the animal to find a proper home.
Just seems unfair to the chicken, that's all.

I have been asking around to see if anyone would be interested in him. But most people don't want a rooster or a chicken with health issues. I'm even trying to find others with small chickens where I can borrow a chicken to see if that helps with his recovery. The bunny isn't even half the size of Nugget and I wouldn't leave them unattended together. I am just hoping to find a way to improve Nugget's life in anyway that I can

So Nugget is doin better. He still spazes sometimes and rolls around. But he's alot more active and vocal and all in all seems happier. I need to give him another bath and find a way to trim his butt better. He sits downs and constantly has Dingle berries. Silly chicken.

I'm trying to find a little hen to keep him company. I figure eventually if someone wants him they'd likely take a hen as well. But in the mean time he'd have company.

Thanks for the updates on Nugget! I am so glad he is getting better. You have really made a difference in his life and your heart is definitely in the right place. Bless your dear heart for taking care of sweet Nugget! I hope you can find him a friend.
