Silkie Health concerns

Thank You all for your kind Welcomes and your awesome Advice. I am not sure if we are going to end up keeping Nugget or not but I also don't want to give someone a sick bird. I have grown quite fond of the little fluff ball. Even his crowing is cute. Of course it is pouring rain atm otherwise I'd be out there building him a proper coop. Thank you. Thank you.
Great that you can take care of this little guy. And wow, you get to work with raptors all day long! I have always wanted to work at or own a wild raptor rehab facility. I think it is just grand that you are giving these wonderful birds a second chance at life.

Keep up the good work and also keep us posted on this silkie!

Sadly we do not have the funding for a facility. We are a group of volunteers who work together and rehab critters at our own homes. But it's nice we don't have to go anywhere in order to complete the daily tasks. We just moved our Turkey vulture over to another rehabber's place because it needed more space than we can provide atm. Right now things are slow and Nugget is my only patient. So he has my complete attention. It's nice to finally have a bird that doesn't completely spaz when I try to handle it, or puke on me, or try to kill me. And yes, it is very rewarding and exciting at times. I love the thrill of the capture and initial treatment. Watching them progress. The conflicting emotions of pride, happiness, loss and worry at the releasing. If you really are interested in wildlife rehab, who knows, you just might have a little group like ours in your area.

I live in the middle of nowhere. LOL So I am sure there are no others out there interested in caring for wounded birds. But I am always on the look out for any wounded birds. LOL Have never come across any. Yet.

I can imagine the range of emotions is great. I would like to think I want to help them, but it might be too much for my soft heart over time. I have a special place in my heart for birds, more than any other creature for some reason. And when any bird is sick or injured, it really gets to me. Especially neglected birds. Really tears my heart out.

And well, the fact that you are doing this in private home with no funding is even MORE impressive! I am sure the cosmic points are adding up in your favor.

Keep up the fantastic work!!

Ty TwoCrows for caring so much about animals that are so often overlooked and under appreciated.
You know what I like to do....drag road kill out of the road so the Vultures, Ravens and Eagles don't get run over! The drivers must think I am nuts.

But too many people just drive right thru birds on the roads feeding on road kill. So when ever possible, I drag these things to the side of the road. I have special gloves in the car for just the occasion!

That is so awesome and thoughtful of you! So many animals get hit cause most people think they'll get out of the way

Yes, especially birds. They just drive right thru them thinking they will get out of the way. But birds tend to swerve to get lift and many times they fly right back into the traffic.

Exactly. Btw Nugget is walking and standing better. I brought him outside for a bit

Keep up with the vitamins. They can work very quickly, especially the B vitamins, which I think he is lacking. The lack of B will cause extreme muscle weakness.

I put some b vitamins in his water when I brought him back inside. Unfortunately my 6 year old son constantly wants to play with him when I have him out.
