Silkie hen with serama rooster?

Hi!
I have a serama rooster and I want to get him a hen that won't be big enough to attack him but he can't over breed, are there and breeds that will work?

Many breeds would work for him. On a side note. If you would get a serama hen, then you would have fertile eggs that you could incubate or put under a broody hen. Serama chicks bring in a descent $ and are frequently sought after. I am trying to find a hen for myself within driving distance, and all I find is ether too expensive or too far away. Pet only and hen only since cant have roosters.

I read that if you have just one it can get over bred and hurt.

It may be better to consider having at the very least 6 hens for your roo - its better for the girls and he'd be as happy as a pig in s***!

I don't have room for 6, would say 2-3 work?

Guess you can "suck it and see" - get as many girls as you can and observe for severe feather loss at the neck and saddle area - or worse. Numbers are only a guide, so don't get too hung up on them (the generally recommended roon ratio is 10:1) - use your common sense and be prepared to find a way to contain your little roo if he is getting too much of a handful for your girls. As long as you have a plan B, then why not try it?

He would most likely do well with 2-3 hens. Especially is you're considering Cochins or Silkies, since they're on the bigger end of the bantam spectrum. Have a back up plan just in case though.

I was thinking of Japanese Bantams, would those work?
