We have 2 6 month old silkies. One of them looks and behaves like a roo and we were 90% sure it was a roo while 2nd one looks and behaves like a hen but we were not sure it was beta male or hen.
This morning, my son ran into our room telling me and my wife that our silkie laid an egg in the box they sleep in during the night and was very happy we will be getting silkie chicks to raise in the future and release them out in the backyard.

When I came back from work while my wife and son were out, I found 2 more eggs out in the backyard! My question is that is it possible for a silkie hen to lay 3 eggs in a day? Or the one we thought was a roo was in fact an alpha female if there is such thing?

Photo of a roo or an alpha female. Notice wide pronounced comb and crest pointing upward.

Very cute. I am “guessing” cause I really don’t know, but they don’t seem to have the wild hair of roo so I think girls. Plus you have 3 eggs since yesterday.

I am leaning toward 2 hens as well since we got 2 more eggs today. 5 eggs in 2 days might be near impossible feat for a single silkie hen. It is just that we were sure one was a roo while 2nd one was up in the air till yesterday.
