Silkie laying habits

My daugher got her "poodle chicken" at the Ohio Nationals and I don't know much about when or how they lay. Shes about 4 months old, so normally I would expect my egg hens to start soon...bbbuuuutttt? When do they start, and do they continue to lay through the winter?

Mine usually don't start laying until 6-7 months!
