I have a 6 month old silkie ... who I didn't really know was girl or boy (I found 2 eggs randomly out in the yard and figured the little d'uccle was slightly confused (but she had been pretty good about laying in the hay or her nesting box) but I didn't think much of it...

until I was out in the yard and let the Littles (silkie & d'uccle) out with the Bigs (they all get along but I keep them separated when I'm not around) and she just popped out an egg while she was walking around ...

This obviously isn't *normal* but figuring that she's a silkie and they tend to be super broody - is this something I should be concerned about? ?

I think we need a video of this! lol

Is this her first time laying? Maybe she just needs to figure out whats going on. She's probably confused by it all. Does she stop and look at the egg after wards?

lol - I'll try for the video ... but it's pretty unlikely i'll get it again

she just "dropped" the egg, did a little head turn at it and kept walking... more like "what was that, ohh well" kind of thing.

this was the first time I *knew* she laid an egg (but like I said I found 2 eggs - bantam eggs- in the yard that I'm thinking were probably hers, since the d'uccle lays her eggs in the nesting box).

I'm going to put something on the ground for her (since she's not interested in jumping up anywhere (even 8" up to the nesting box)...

I had honestly thought she was a boy because she doesn't do the "hen squat" that everyone else does

... but I do think she has some sight problems, she always seems startled when you come up to her, but she doesn't run into anything.

I have one buff one that does it day after day. She is the leader of the flock and is so nosey and so in charge she does not want to take the time to sit..lol
