***** Is the 5 toe Silkie feature dominant?

We hatched out the cutest little mutt. We were "sure" that the egg was a silkie egg. Our silkies have one spot where they lay. The egg was small & cream colored. We have mostly big, brown-egg laying standard hens + a couple of Polish. However, this little chick has four toes and is not "feather-legged". It does have a tiny bit a feathering near the bottom of the shank. Could this baby be a silkie - andalusian mix?

I am gonna post a photo tomorrow. I only set the egg, cuz I thought I was sure it was one of my silkies. I have 2 silkie roos & one andalusian. This little cutie is black, not too fluffy and has a burgundy band along its forehead.

It IS interesting watching them grow. I have a few Silkie X Comet crosses. The pullets are very pretty.

What color skin did your baby get? And what is the combo you think they parents would be? It was a bantam egg, did the mom have to be silkie? or could your chick be parented in either direction? I am curious to see if what I am finding with skin color and sex holds true. When the father is the silkie the girls have black skin and the boys have light skin like their mothers.

Black/slate skin (Fm) is not sex-linked. id+, which causes black/slate legs (only) is sex-linked.
