So this week my gold-laced orpington hen just hatched 1 adorable chick (whose name is Perkins). I have one orpington and my other chickens are all silkie roosters so the chick is a silkie mix. I don't know who Perkins' father is. Not only that but my hen, Ford, was sitting on a clutch of three eggs (this was her first time hatching) and only one of the eggs hatched, 5 days after Perkins hatched, I checked the eggs and there were only veins which had been scrambled up with the yolk. Why might this be? Other than that, Ford is a great mother and has been taking great care of Perkins. The first picture is of Perkins and the second picture includes on of the three possible fathers.

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the 1 chick broody hatch! Wow is that a cute pic of baby sticking out of momma! As for the eggs that didn't hatch, you may never know why they didn't hatch. If another hen got into her box while she was out stretching, the others could have messed with the eggs. Maybe she didn't turn them properly, the other eggs could have gotten cold. And not all eggs hatch to begin with. There will be others stopping by to welcome you to BYC and maybe they will have more insight than I have here.

So glad you could join our community and enjoy your broody and her baby!!

my buff orpington JUST went broody today and i would like to know what the chicks would look like.
