Silkie people got a question

Do you use roosts for your silkies? I had one, built just like the book said, like a small ladder, the rungs rounded about 1 1/2 thick. But only 1 hen and our frizzled cochin bantam rooster used it. The others didnt use it for over 2 weeks, til I took it out. Do you need a roost for silkies?

I would provide a small roost for them. I have had silkies the would roost at night and some that never roost. It seems to me that the roosters always roost and the hens prefer the coop shavings on the ground, but I have one hen that has always roosted. It's kinda nice to let them have a choice.

Right now they do not have roosts-they all sleep in their nesting boxes cuddled up!

My boys prefer a 2x4.. I have it about 2 - 3 inches off the floor. The girls roost in the floor behind it.

My silkies have never used the 3ft roosts..they would rather huddle up together in a corner....that's ok with DH..less roosts to build!!!

Mine won't use roosts no matter how low I put them...
