Hello! I found my 1.5 year old silkie will a poo butt this morning. I soaked her for 15 minutes and cleaned her up. I don’t think she’s egg bound, I used a lubed finger to feel for an egg and didn’t find anything. Her belly feels soft so I don’t think she’s constipated. She definitely seems to be straining…that’s when the prolapse happens. There is a bit of blood around her vent. She doesn’t seem interested in food or water but did take a few drinks when I offered it to her. She’s currently quarantined in the dark-ish basement.
Any suggestions on what I should be doing?

Has her prolapse been pecked by other chickens when it was out? From the looks of her puffed out vent, it looks like she either has an egg up high, is constipated, or there could be lash egg material in her vent. I would give her a half of a human calcium tablet or a 1/2 a Tums orally. Get her drinking water. Then try either soaking her in warm water in a shallow bath for 15 minutes, or put her in a warm room on a moist warm towel to sit. Be sure to keep her prolapse covered with ointment or honey if it is out, to keep it from drying out.

Thanks for your reply. I gave her the tums and she’s had some food and water. It seems like she has diarrhea or at least really loose poo. It’s slowly coming out.
