Just read a Consumer Report article which mentioned as a general rule white chickens lay white eggs, brown chickens lay brown. Naturally people wrote into to correct the story! CR then followed up to say they meant it was a general trait with egg layers of the agri business. But it did get me thinking: I know Silkies can lay eggs in different colors. My silkes came in white eggs, and they have black or dark blue earlobes. Does anyone know if the color of the egg indicates the color of the earlobe? Or is lobe color just a genetic trait passed on, with no relevance to egg color? Is egg color an indicator for any trait, in any chicken? Thanks for any replies!
