Silkie question- egg colors

I have a Silkie hen that is white and lays white eggs. Recently, I've been getting a beige colored, smaller egg in the laying box. I'm wondering if one of the other hens are now laying or did the egg color change? I have a white Silkie hen, a cartridge colored and a grey colored young chicken we can't determine sex yet.

I have 5 silkie hens. All of their eggs are different sizes and slightly different in color, Their eggs will get bigger as they get older. Anyone who says that silkies are ependable layers hasn't met mine. I get an egg a day from each (unless they're broody).

Just read a Consumer Report article which mentioned as a general rule white chickens lay white eggs, brown chickens lay brown..... Or is lobe color just a genetic trait passed on, with no relevance to egg color?

Is egg color an indicator for any trait, in any chicken?....

To answer your last question first, YES, the color of a hens' ear lobe is a reliable indicator of eggshell color. And a hens' eggshell color is a reliable indicator of the color of that hens' earlobes. White feathers were originally bred into chickens to hide, or camouflage the emerging pen feathers on a dressed chicken. Most of you are too young to remember your mothers cranking up the flame on the gas or oil stove to singe or burn the pen feathers off the hen she brought home for dinner.

The next time that you break out a brown shelled egg take a moment to examine the inside of the shell to see what color the part of the shell is that comes into direct contact with the eatable part of the egg. I'll bet you that its white. Now what is all the hoopla about brown eggs? Unlike beauty, egg color is less than skin deep.

Above are two examples of earlobe color, one is a brown leghorn that lays white eggs and the other picture is of a RIR who lays brown shelled eggs.

The leghorn's earlobes are white while the RIR's earlobes are red.

I love our new silkies, so cute. Ours are just about a month old, maybe less, what age did you start gettin eggs? No idea on how to sex them either. One white, one black, two greys. Picked up from lady lost her home for them. So, now silkies added to larger breeds.

Mine all started to lay before their large breed counterparts - at about 5 -6 months. I have 7 of them
